Russian 1S91 SURN KUB Radar, 1/35 - Trumpeter 09571

Trumpeter 09571 recreates the Russian mobile radar 1S91 SURN KUB at the 1/35 scale. This plastic model kit to be assembled depicts the radar vehicle associated with the KUB ground-to-air system, featuring its characteristic antenna assembly mounted on a tracked chassis.

The 1S91 SURN vehicle brings together an objective acquisition and distribution station 1S11, a continuous-wave illuminator 1S31, an IFF (friend-or-foe) identification interrogator, as well as an optical channel. The two antennas, arranged on two levels, can rotate independently. The central cylinder can be lowered into the vehicle to reduce its height during transport.

At 1/35 scale, the assembled model measures 201.5 mm long and 104.3 mm wide. The kit includes more than 530 parts and offers a detailed reproduction of the radar superstructure, the antennas and the running gear. The upper and lower hulls are made using a multiple-drawer design to accurately capture the vehicle’s shapes.

A photo-etched fret is included to represent certain fine details. Assembly requires careful preparation of the small parts, especially around the radar equipment and running-gear components. A primer suitable for plastic scale models then makes it easier to paint and achieve a uniform finish.
