German Scharnhorst Battleship, 1/200 - Trumpeter 03715

The German Scharnhorst Battleship by Trumpeter, reference 03715, is a plastic injection naval model at a scale of 1/200. It recreates the German battleship Scharnhorst, the lead ship of its class, in an imposing format designed for richly detailed ship modeling projects.

The Scharnhorst entered service in 1939 and took part in German naval operations during the Second World War. Its record includes, in particular, operations in the North Sea and the Atlantic. The ship was sunk on December 26, 1943 during the Battle of the North Cape.

A large-scale naval model

Once assembled, the replica measures 1,175 mm long and 150 mm wide. The 1/200 scale makes it possible to faithfully capture the presence of the hull lines, superstructures, artillery, and the many characteristic features of a large warship.

Assembly and finishing

The presence of photo-etching adds finesse to the ship’s most delicate elements, especially the railings and ladders. Methodical preparation of parts, gluing, and painting helps to highlight the deck reliefs, artillery, and superstructures.

Applying a primer before painting makes it easier to spot assembly imperfections and improves paint adhesion. Decals are best applied to a smooth, glossy surface, then protected with a suitable varnish. After that, a restrained weathering can be used to emphasize the details of the hull and deck equipment.
