The Russian PT-76 Amphibious Tank Mod.1951 model kit by Trumpeter, reference 00379, reproduces at 1/35 the PT-76 in its original 1951 version. This Soviet light amphibious tank is an iconic subject among Cold War armored vehicles, recognizable by its streamlined hull designed for navigation and its compact turret.

The PT-76 was adopted by the Soviet Union in the early 1950s. Its amphibious capability set it apart from conventional tanks: it was intended in particular for reconnaissance missions and for supporting forces able to cross wet areas or waterways. Its chassis also served as the basis for several Soviet military vehicles.

At the 1/35 scale, this plastic kit allows you to create a detailed replica of a post-war Soviet armored vehicle. The assembled model measures approximately 215.7 mm long, 90.2 mm wide and 78 mm high. It includes 176 parts, with photo-etched elements, a cable and metal wire. The upper and lower hull halves are made using slide-molding technology.

Assembly includes, among other things, the running gear, tracks, hull, turret and main armament. The photo-etched parts require careful handling and the use of suitable cyanoacrylate glue. The tracks can be glued and painted using products intended for plastic scale models.

The instructions call for plastic glue, cyanoacrylate glue for certain parts, as well as hobby paints. These products are not included. Careful preparation of the parts, followed by primer, makes painting and finishing easier. Decals should be applied to a smooth, glossy surface to limit carrier film traces; a protective clear coat can then be used to even out the final appearance.

This Trumpeter reference is ideal for a 1/35 Soviet armored vehicle project, either on its own or integrated into a diorama evoking amphibious operations, muddy terrain, or wet environments. The 1/35 scale also offers many opportunities for detailing, weathering and aging, while remaining compatible with figures and accessories commonly used for military vehicles of this size.
