The MENG-Model TS-031 is a plastic model kit to be assembled at 1/35 of the German heavy tank Sd.Kfz.182 King Tiger, reproduced here with the turret known as Henschel. This vehicle, also known by the designation Tiger II, is one of the major German armoured vehicles of the Second World War. Once built, the model measures 290 mm in length and 108 mm in width.

The King Tiger Sd.Kfz.182

The Tiger II is a German heavy tank brought into service during the final phase of the Second World War. Its silhouette is characterized by heavily angled armour, a massive hull, and a long-barrel 88 mm cannon. The version with the turret known as Henschel corresponds to the most commonly associated production configuration of the King Tiger.

This armoured vehicle is a popular subject among military modelling enthusiasts thanks to its massive volumes, the numerous details of its running gear, and the painting possibilities specific to late-war German vehicles.

The MENG-Model kit

This MENG-Model Tyrannosaurus series reference allows you to build a King Tiger at 1/35. The kit includes plastic parts, photo-etched elements, link-and-length tracks with straight sections, as well as templates for assembling the tracks. Two crew figures, representing a tank commander and a loader, are also included.

Cast textures, weld beads, and surface details are among the features reproduced on the model. The 1/35 scale offers a good compromise between display size and detailing potential: each dimension of the real vehicle is reduced by a factor of 35.

Assembly and finishing

As with any 1/35 armoured vehicle model, careful preparation of the parts before gluing makes it easier to achieve a clean build. The link-and-length tracks with straight sections require particular attention in order to reproduce a regular track run over the road wheels and sprockets.

An appropriate primer then makes painting easier and helps highlight any touch-ups needed. Decals are best applied to a smooth, prepared surface. Gradual weathering, combining washes, highlights, dust, and wear marks, helps bring out the raised details of the armour, cast textures, and running gear details.
