SMS Viribus Unitis, 1/350 - Trumpeter 05364

The SMS Viribus Unitis model kit by Trumpeter, reference 05364, reproduces at 1/350 the Austro-Hungarian dreadnought SMS Viribus Unitis. This plastic kit makes it possible to depict an iconic ship from the Austro-Hungarian Navy during the First World War.

Put into service in December 1912, the SMS Viribus Unitis was equipped with triple turrets armed with 305 mm guns. It was the world’s first dreadnought to receive this main artillery layout. The ship was lost in the port of Pula on 1 November 1918.

Trumpeter naval model kit at 1/350

At a scale of 1/350, the assembled model measures 434.2 mm long and 79.7 mm wide. This scale provides impressive display presence and is particularly suitable for a naval detailing project, careful painting, and controlled weathering.

The kit includes more than 480 parts and features a hull made in two sections, twelve sprues with the deck, a metal anchor chain, and three photo-etched sheets. The deck has a wood texture reproduced by engraving. A display stand is also included to present the battleship once completed.

Assembly and finishing

The presence of small parts and photo-etched elements requires precise handling. Fine cutters, a modeling blade, tweezers, files, and sandpaper make preparation and assembly easier. Photo-etched parts must be handled with care and glued with a suitable cyanoacrylate glue.

Glue and paints needed for assembly are not included. Applying a primer before painting generally helps to even out the plastic surfaces and prepare for the various finishing steps. Decals are best applied to a smooth surface, then protected with a varnish suited to the desired finish.
