The real subject

N/AW stands for Night/Adverse Weather, meaning “night and adverse weather conditions”. The N/AW A-10 prototype was developed in 1979 from an early-series A-10A, in order to evaluate an evolution capable of operating in reduced visibility conditions. The aircraft received a second cockpit position, along with equipment adapted for night and all-weather missions. Only a single example of this variant was converted, making it a particularly original subject in the history of the Thunderbolt II.

The A-10 Thunderbolt II was designed for close air support. Its highly recognizable silhouette, with its two turbojets mounted high at the rear of the fuselage and its wide straight wings, makes it an iconic aircraft of contemporary U.S. military aviation.
