Tupolev Tu-142 MR Bear-J, 1/72 - Trumpeter 01609

Planned for September 2026, the reference 01609 from Trumpeter recreates the Tupolev Tu-142MR Bear-J in 1/72 scale. This plastic model kit to be assembled represents the Tu-142MR version of the large Soviet turboprop aircraft, identified as the Bear-J in NATO designation.

The Tu-142 is derived from the Tupolev Tu-95 and was developed for maritime missions. The Tu-142MR variant was intended for long-range communications missions, notably in connection with submarine forces. Its distinctive silhouette, large fuselage, four turboprop engines, and broad wings make it a particularly imposing subject in a modern military aviation or Cold War collection.

At 1/72 scale, the finished model reaches a length of 691 mm and a wingspan of 695 mm. Its format highlights the Bear-J’s lines and also provides an interesting base for a runway display project, maintenance scene, or naval aviation diorama.

A light weathering can then be used to emphasize panel lines, exhaust areas, and traces of use, depending on the chosen interpretation.
