Mörser KARL-Gerät 040/041, 1/35 - Trumpeter 00215

The Mörser KARL-Gerät 040/041 model kit by Trumpeter, reference 00215, faithfully reproduces at 1/35 the German self-propelled siege mortar Karl-Gerät used during the Second World War. Made from injection-molded plastic, this large kit lets you build a Gerät 040 or Gerät 041 version.

The Karl-Gerät was a heavy self-propelled artillery piece designed for siege firing. The Gerät 040 was equipped with a 60 cm barrel, while the Gerät 041 received a 54 cm barrel intended to increase range. Its imposing chassis and unusual armament make it a particularly striking subject for a collection of German armored vehicles and artillery at 1/35.

Trumpeter provides parts to assemble the 040 model in an early or late configuration, as well as the 041 model. The kit includes two types of chassis, tracks, and wheels corresponding to these assembly options. It also includes eight 1/35-scale crew figures, a photo-etched detail sheet, seven metal parts, and two aluminum projectiles.

Once built, the model measures 840 mm long, 99.4 mm wide, and 133 mm high. With its 1,424 parts spread across 19 sprues, this is a large-scale project that highlights the preparation work, the methodical assembly of sub-assemblies, and the finishing of the running gear.

The included decals are for the German army. Painting can be preceded by an appropriate primer for plastic, photo-etched parts, and metal components. Weathering work can then be used to bring out the chassis volumes, mechanical details, the tracks, and the operational look of this heavy artillery piece.

At 1/35 scale, each dimension of the real vehicle is reduced by a factor of 35. The finished format makes this Karl-Gerät a centerpiece for an artillery diorama, a display with figures, or a collection dedicated to Second World War military vehicles.
