F6F-3 Hellcat, 1/48 - Eduard Plastic Kits 84194
The F6F-3 Hellcat 1/48 Eduard Plastic Kits model, reference 84194 recreates the U.S. Navy Grumman F6F-3 Hellcat naval fighter at a scale of 1/48. Offered in the Weekend Edition range, it is made from injection-molded plastic and dedicated to an iconic aircraft from Second World War naval aviation operations.
The Grumman F6F-3 Hellcat
The F6F Hellcat was a carrier-based fighter used by the U.S. Navy during the Second World War. Designed to operate from aircraft carriers, it was also used from land bases. Some examples were also deployed by the British Fleet Air Arm. Its sturdy silhouette, radial engine, and folding wings make it a must-have subject for naval aviation enthusiasts and Allied equipment from the conflict.
The Eduard 84194 model
This box lets you assemble an F6F-3 Hellcat at 1/48 scale. The 1/48 scale reduces the real aircraft’s dimensions by a factor of 48 and provides a format appreciated for working on cockpit details, painting the fuselage, and applying markings.
The edition includes Eduard plastic parts as well as an Eduard decal sheet. It offers four decoration options depicting aircraft of the U.S. Navy and the Royal Navy, used from aircraft carriers or land bases. This reference does not include photo-etched parts, a paint mask set, or resin parts.
Decoration options
- VF-34, Green Island (Nissan Island), Papua New Guinea, March–April 1944.
- VF-27, USS Princeton (CVL-23), October 1944.
- Bu.No. 40994, Lt. Alexander Vraciu, VF-16, USS Lexington (CV-16), June 1944.
- JV111, Sgt. (AROV) Charles A. M. Poublon, No. 800 Squadron, Fleet Air Arm, HMS Emperor, August 1944.
Assembly and finishing
As with any plastic model kit, assembly requires careful preparation of the parts before gluing. Removing sprue attachment points, dry-fitting the main subassemblies, and lightly sanding the seams help achieve a clean finish. Using a suitable primer then makes it easier to check the surface and proceed with painting.
The included decorations allow you to build Hellcats from a variety of operational contexts. Applying the decals onto a smooth surface—ideally prepared with an appropriate varnish—helps ensure a crisp result. Then, a restrained weathering can be used to highlight panels, areas of movement, and the aircraft’s operational use.
