P-47M Thunderbolt, 1/72 - Revell 03984

The Republic P-47M Thunderbolt Revell 03984 scale model reproduces at 1/72 one of the most capable versions of the famous American fighter Thunderbolt from the Second World War. This snap-in assembly kit includes 67 parts and lets you build a model measuring 156 mm in length with a 172 mm wingspan.

The P-47M Thunderbolt

The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt was one of the main single-seat fighters used by the USAAF during the Second World War. Developed from the P-47D, the P-47M version was created for intercepting the V-1 flying bombs. It was distinguished in particular by its R-2800 engine fitted with an improved turbo-supercharger, and by the presence of dive brakes under the wings.

The 130 examples of the P-47M were used by the 56th Fighter Group, based in Boxted, England. This variant is therefore a particularly interesting subject for a collection dedicated to Allied aviation of 1945 and to the final air battles in Europe.

The Revell model kit

This 1/72 reproduction features engraved/structured surfaces, a detailed cockpit with instrument panel, a represented radial engine, detailed landing gear, and a movable propeller. Assembly also includes equipment parts such as rockets and two additional tanks.

The decal sheet allows you to create two P-47M decorations from the 56th Fighter Group of the US 8th Army Air Force, based in Boxted, England:

• an aircraft from the 63rd Fighter Squadron, in May 1945;
• an aircraft from the 62nd Fighter Squadron, at the beginning of 1945.

Assembly and finishing

Classed at level 4 by Revell, this model is aimed at modelers who already have some experience with gluing and painting. Careful preparation of the parts before assembly, followed by progressive painting of cockpit, engine and landing gear details, will help highlight the model’s fine finish.

Decals are best applied to a smooth, clean surface. A matt or satin finish, suited to the chosen decoration, then helps unify the aircraft’s overall look. Modelers who want to bring out the surface relief can enhance the paintwork with a light weathering and a judicious accentuation of the structural lines.
