METAL BURNISHING FLUID AK Interactive AK159 is a burnishing liquid designed for the natural weathering of white metal tracks in static scale modeling projects. This auxiliary product quickly darkens the metal and creates a suitably oxidized look for armored vehicles, military vehicles, and dioramas.

A patinated metal effect on white metal tracks

The AK159 reference works by immersion: the metal parts are dipped for a few seconds in the liquid to trigger the burnishing reaction. The metal then takes on a darker, rusted appearance. The result can be adjusted by varying the product dilution and the immersion time.

This solution is particularly suited to articulated white metal track links. Using an old brush helps the liquid penetrate the recesses and between the links for a more even treatment.

Use in scale modeling

Pour the liquid carefully into a suitable container, then place the tracks in the bath. After the product’s action, rinse with water to remove any excess. Drying on absorbent paper then allows the reaction to continue, helping the oxidized finish to develop.

Burnishing provides an interesting base before more advanced finishing: pigments, washes, dusting, and mud effects can further enhance the look of the running gear. It also allows you to treat hard-to-reach areas once the tracks are assembled.
