Soviet SU-100 Tank Destroyer, 1/16 - Trumpeter 00915

The Trumpeter 00915 model reproduces the Soviet SU-100 tank destroyer at a scale of 1/16. This large-format static model depicts a World War II Soviet armored vehicle with a detailing level designed to highlight the distinctive shapes of its casemate and running gear.

The SU-100 was developed in 1944 as an evolution of the SU-85, on a chassis derived from the T-34-85. Armed with a 100 mm D-10S gun, it entered mass production starting from September 1944. Its low silhouette, closed fighting compartment, and long main armament make it a major subject for enthusiasts of late-war Soviet armored vehicles.

The reference 00915 includes more than 1 100 parts spread across 32 sprues, with lower hull, upper hull, and track elements. The kit features a complete interior layout, individual track links, two photo-etched brass fret(s), as well as metal parts, including a copper cable and springs. The lower hull is made using a multi-slide mold to accurately reproduce its shapes.

Once assembled, the SU-100 measures a length of 583.2 mm and a width of 188 mm. The 1/16 scale provides an impressive presence on display and leaves plenty of room for painting, weathering, and detailing work.

Assembly requires careful preparation of the many parts, with special attention during installation of the suspension components, individual tracks, and the interior. The use of glue suitable for scale models, precision tools, a primer, and model paints is recommended. Photo-etched parts can be shaped using fine tweezers or a dedicated bending tool.

The finish can enhance the volumes of the superstructure, weld seams, running gear, and interior details. Techniques such as dry brushing, washes, and weathering help bring out the relief while adapting the armored vehicle’s look to the chosen display presentation project.
