A foam designed for engraving

This sculpting foam, also known as balsa foam, features a fine-grain structure that is well-suited for reproducing engraved details. More rigid and durable than the Construction Foam from the range, it allows you to work on decorative surfaces intended for scenic display bases or for staging miniature vehicles, figures, and buildings.

The Carving Foam can be combined with other model-making materials, such as cork, plastic, or metal, to create a variety of facades, floors, walls, and structures.

Cutting and finishing

The sheet can be cut with a sharp utility knife or a small saw. Cutting or pressing tools let you engrave the desired textures and patterns directly into the surface. The surface can also be sanded to achieve a smoother finish before painting.

For assembling multiple pieces of Carving Foam, a vinyl glue or a gel cyanoacrylate glue can be used. A primer and suitable decorative paints then help prepare effects of texture, weathering, and ageing.
