Of the nine companies that submitted designs for the UTTAS helicopter, the U.S. Department of Defense selected two - Boeing-Vertol and Sikorsky. In 1976, after completion of the tests, the Army selected Sikorsky as the winner of the UTTAS program, and a contract was signed for the production of the first batch of helicopters, which received the Army designation UH-60A Black Hawk (the series designation is Sikorsky S-70).
