OV-1B Mohawk With SLAR unit, 1/144 - Clear Prop Models CP144009

The OV-1B Mohawk “With SLAR unit” scale model kit by Clear Prop Models, reference CP144009, reproduces at 1/144 scale a reconnaissance version of the Grumman OV-1B Mohawk equipped with an airborne lateral radar SLAR. This plastic kit lets you assemble an American reconnaissance aircraft whose asymmetrical radar pod under the fuselage is one of its most distinctive visual features.

The Mohawk was developed for observation and reconnaissance missions. In the OV-1B version, it features a SLAR system, an acronym for Side-Looking Airborne Radar, designed to observe the terrain laterally. This configuration clearly sets the aircraft apart from the other variants in the OV-1 family and provides an original subject for a small-scale military aviation collection.

Clear Prop Models CP144009 scale model

The kit includes 59 plastic parts, arranged on four sprues including one clear sprue, as well as 8 photo-etched parts. A decal sheet and a detailed, full-color assembly guide are also provided to help you build a finished example.

Once assembled, the model measures 93.2 mm in length with a 101.5 mm wingspan. The 1/144 scale offers a compact format, well-suited for display on a shelf, in a display case, or as part of a diorama dedicated to reconnaissance aviation.

Assembly and finishing

Assembly combines injection-molded plastic parts, a clear element, and photo-etched details. Careful preparation of the parts, using the right adhesive for plastic, and painting before applying the decals all contribute to a clean finish. Photo-etched parts can be handled with a fine tweezers and glued using an appropriate adhesive.

A model primer helps unify the surfaces prior to painting and makes it easier to spot any touch-ups needed. After applying the decals, using a suitable clear coat helps protect the markings and harmonize the model’s final appearance.
