Soviet JSU-152K Armored Self-Propelled Gun, 1/35 - Trumpeter 05591

The Soviet JSU-152K from Trumpeter, reference 05591, is a scale model of an armored self-propelled gun at 1/35. This plastic kit to be assembled reproduces the modernized version of the ISU-152, a formidable Soviet self-propelled artillery vehicle.

Developed in 1956, the JSU-152K is a post-war evolution of the ISU-152. This modernization in particular introduced a new powerpack, a tank commander’s cupola, and modifications to the running gear. Its low profile, armored superstructure, and 152 mm armament make it a standout subject for a collection of Soviet armored vehicles from the Cold War period.

The Trumpeter kit includes more than 360 parts spread across 12 sprues, with a lower hull and upper hull. It comes with a photo-etched fret as well as a copper cable. The hull parts are made using slide-mold tooling to reproduce the vehicle’s shapes and details.

Once assembled, the JSU-152K is approximately 298 mm long and 220 mm wide. At 1/35 scale, it makes an impressive centerpiece for a Soviet armored-vehicle diorama or a display dedicated to heavy self-propelled guns.

Assembly requires careful preparation of the parts, especially the small components and the photo-etched elements. A suitable primer will then make it easier to paint and to bring out the hull surface details, the running gear, and the external equipment. Weathering can be done with restraint to emphasize the volumes and the massive appearance of this self-propelled gun.
