Planned for September 2026, the 84543 Hobby Boss reference offers a plastic-injection model kit to be assembled of the Soviet SU-122-54 at 1/35. This post-war self-propelled gun, also designated Object 600 during development, is depicted with its distinctive low silhouette and enclosed superstructure.

The Soviet SU-122-54

The SU-122-54 is a Soviet self-propelled artillery vehicle developed on a base derived from the T-54 tank. It combines a tracked chassis with a casemate housing a 122 mm gun. Produced in a limited series in the mid-1950s, it is a particularly interesting subject for a collection dedicated to Cold War Soviet armored vehicles.

The Hobby Boss 84543 model kit

Built at 1/35 scale, this kit reproduces the angular shapes of the SU-122-54 and its tracked running gear. The box includes more than 530 parts spread across 18 sprues, along with a decal sheet, a photo-etched part, and a metal cable. The tracks are provided as individual links.

Once assembled, the model measures approximately 287.9 mm long and 102.4 mm wide. At 1/35 scale, each dimension of the real vehicle is reduced by a factor of 35—an appreciated format for the level of detail it allows on armored vehicles and military dioramas.

Assembly and finishing

Assembly requires the usual supplies for modelers: plastic glue, cutting and preparation tools, paints, and finishing products. Careful preparation of attachment points, alignment of the running gear, and progressive assembly of the track links help achieve a clean result.

After assembly, applying a primer makes painting easier. A light weathering can then be used to bring out the hull’s relief details, running gear elements, and areas exposed to signs of use. Decals are best applied to a smooth, properly prepared surface.
