BMP-3 IFV, 1/35 - Trumpeter 01528

The BMP-3 IFV Trumpeter 01528 model kit reproduces, at 1/35, a Russian infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) BMP-3. This static plastic kit lets you build a modern armoured vehicle with distinctive shapes, featuring its turret and detailed running gear.

The BMP-3 belongs to the BMP family of infantry fighting vehicles, following the BMP-1 and BMP-2. Entering production in the late 1980s, it combines mobility, armament, and troops-carrying capability. Its mechanical layout, with the powerpack positioned at the right rear, contributes to this vehicle’s distinctive silhouette.

The Trumpeter model kit

Reference 01528 is an injection-moulded plastic kit to be assembled. Once built, the model measures 203 mm long and 95 mm wide. The set includes more than 750 parts, spread across 12 sprues, with hull and turret components, as well as the tracks.

The model kit also includes five clear parts and a photo-etched fret of 14 pieces. The tracks are represented by 192 individual links, a solution well suited to reproducing the relief and articulated look of the running gear. The included decals match the Russian army.

Assembly and finishing

Assembly requires precision, especially for the individual track links and small detailing parts. A dry-fit of the main hull and running-gear components makes it easier to adjust everything before gluing.

Painting is best preceded by a primer suitable for plastic. Surface details, recesses and raised areas can then be enhanced using washes, dry brushing, or a carefully controlled weathering technique. Decals are preferably applied to a smooth, glossy surface, before a final protection coat adapted to the desired finish.

Scale 1/35

At 1/35, each dimension of the real vehicle is reduced by a factor of 35. This widely used scale in military modelling makes it possible to display the BMP-3 on its own, on a base, or as part of a contemporary diorama with compatible figures and accessories.
