The 80379 reference from Hobby Boss is a plastic aircraft model kit to be assembled, reproducing the Messerschmitt Me 262 B-1a/U1 at 1/48 scale. This two-seat version of the famous German jet fighter from the Second World War is offered in the form of a kit for military aviation enthusiasts and the Luftwaffe.

The Me 262 holds a major place in aviation history as the first jet fighter to enter operational service. The B-1a/U1 variant corresponds to an adaptation of the two-seater for night-fighter missions, recognizable by its configuration with two crew members.

The Hobby Boss 80379 model kit

This 1/48 plastic kit includes more than 180 parts, with four clear elements intended for the canopy. The reproduction features detailed fuselage and wings, as well as landing gear bays. An optional metal part is provided for the nose landing gear.

The decal sheet allows you to build a German aircraft from the NJG 11 « Kommando Welter », identified as the “12” (W.Nr.111980), flown by Lieutenant Herbert Altner in 1945.

Assembly and finishing

Assembly requires the usual supplies for static modeling: plastic glue, cutting and deburring tools, fine abrasives, and paints. Preparing parts before gluing, followed by primer, makes painting easier and helps verify the fit of the assemblies. The clear parts are best handled carefully to preserve the crispness of the canopy.

At 1/48 scale, each real aircraft dimension is reduced by a factor of 48. This scale allows you to work on cockpit details, landing gear, and exterior finishing, with weathering suitable for a late Second World War military aircraft.
