Tornado IDS, 1/48 - Hobby Boss 80353
Planned availability in September 2026.
The 80353 reference from Hobby Boss represents a Tornado IDS in 1/48. This injection-plastic model kit to be assembled reproduces the interdiction and strike version of the Panavia Tornado, a European twin-seat combat aircraft with variable-sweep wings.
The Panavia Tornado IDS
Developed jointly by the United Kingdom, West Germany, and Italy, the Tornado made its first flight in 1974. The IDS version is intended for interdiction and strike missions. Its variable-sweep wings are one of the most recognizable features of this aircraft.
The Hobby Boss 80353 model kit
The kit includes 416 plastic parts, a photo-etched fret, and transparent elements for the canopy. Once assembled, the model measures 361 mm long and has a 290 mm wingspan.
The wings can be displayed with variable sweep. The flaps are also offered in an optional position, allowing you to customize the aircraft’s presentation during assembly.
Decals included
- Panavia Tornado IDS of the Luftwaffe, Jabo 32, code 44+50.
- Tornado GR.1 of the Royal Air Force, code ZA404.
Assembly and finishing
At a scale of 1/48, each dimension of the real aircraft is reduced by a factor of 48. Preparing the parts, careful gluing, and applying a primer before painting all help achieve a neat finish. Photo-etching requires the use of precision tools and suitable glue.
