AFRIKA KORPS 3G - AK Interactive AK11652

AFRIKA KORPS 3G AK Interactive AK11652 is a 3rd-generation set of acrylic paints designed for coloring German vehicles deployed in North Africa between the beginning of 1941 and May 1943. It brings together six useful shades to reproduce the changes in paints and camouflage used on Afrika Korps equipment.

The vehicles and equipment initially shipped to North Africa were generally finished in RAL 7021 Dunkelgrau. From March 1941, the tones intended for the African theater include RAL 8000 Gelbbraun and RAL 7008 Graugrün. In March 1942, this combination is replaced by RAL 8020 Braun and RAL 7027 Grau. The set also includes RAL 1001 Elfenbein, intended for vehicle interiors.

Use in model making

This set is a consistent base for painting armored vehicles, light vehicles, trucks, and German equipment depicted in North Africa. The acrylic paints can be applied to carefully prepared parts, using a brush or an airbrush, depending on the working method chosen. Applying a suitable primer generally helps adhesion and allows better control of the finish.

To enhance the realism of a desert vehicle model, the base shades can then be complemented with weathering work: highlights, shadows, dust, signs of wear, and grime help bring out volume and integrate the model into a North African setting. Aging effects should be applied gradually to preserve camouflage readability.
