The reference 83860 from Hobby Boss recreates a French heavy tank Saint-Chamond in its late version, at a scale of 1/35. This injection-plastic model kit to be assembled is aimed at World War I armored vehicle enthusiasts and lets you depict one of the most characteristic silhouettes of the early French tracked vehicles.

The Saint-Chamond tank

The Saint-Chamond was used by France during the First World War. Its imposing elongated hull, wide front overhang, and main armament in a casemate give it a very distinctive appearance among armored vehicles from this period. The late versions received, in particular, improvements designed to better meet operational conditions in the field.

The Hobby Boss 83860 model kit

Made at 1/35 scale, once assembled this kit measures approximately 265 mm long and 102.2 mm wide. It includes more than 300 plastic parts, spread across 14 sprues, with hull and tracks components. A photo-etched sheet is also provided to add to the assembly details.

The upper hull is molded using a multi-part technology, while the tracks are made up of individual links. This design helps to closely represent the running gear and achieve a result suited to a historical armored vehicle project at 1/35.

Assembly and finishing

As with any plastic model kit, careful preparation of the parts before gluing helps ensure the quality of the final result. The individual track links require methodical assembly. Applying a primer before painting then helps achieve uniform finishing and brings out the raised details.

A light weathering can be used to evoke the vehicle’s use on First World War terrains: dust tones, marks on the tracks, and highlighting the edges help reinforce the model’s character without hiding its details.
