MH-6J Little Bird, US Special Forces Helicopter (100% new moulds), 1/48 - ICM 48369

The MH-6J Little Bird ICM 48369 is a model kit to be assembled at the 1/48 scale, depicting the light helicopter of the US special forces. This new-reference release from fully new moulds allows you to recreate the MH-6J transport and infiltration version of the Little Bird family.

The MH-6J Little Bird

The MH-6J is derived from the lineage of light helicopters developed from the OH-6 Cayuse. Based on the MD 530MG, it was notably used by the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, also known as the Night Stalkers. Its main rotor, anti-torque rotor and skid landing gear configuration makes for an instantly recognizable silhouette.

In its transport role, the Little Bird can carry personnel on the seats installed on each side of the fuselage. This compact format makes it a particularly appealing subject for a modern military aviation scene or a diorama dedicated to US special operations.

The ICM model kit at 1/48

The 48369 reference includes 147 parts. Once assembled, the model measures 182 mm long and 166 mm wide. The 1/48 scale reduces each dimension of the real helicopter by a factor of 48, a format appreciated for detailed scale aviation models.

Two decal options are provided for MH-6Js of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment during the 1990s:

Assembly and finishing

A careful build begins with preparing the parts, removing sprue attachment points, and doing test fits before gluing. On a 1/48 helicopter, aligning the fuselage, skids and rotor assemblies deserves particular attention in order to preserve the aircraft’s characteristic look.

Applying a model primer then makes painting easier and helps you check the quality of the assembly. Decals are best applied on a smooth, prepared surface, and can then be protected with a suitable clear varnish. A subtle weathering finish can complete the look depending on the desired appearance for your project.
