German Brückenleger IV b, 1/35 - Trumpeter 00390

The model German Brückenleger IV b by Trumpeter, reference 00390, reproduced at 1/35 scale, depicts a German bridge-laying vehicle based on the Panzer IV chassis. This plastic kit to be assembled represents a specialized variant of the German armored vehicle used in the early part of the Second World War.

The Brückenleger IV b was designed to enable armored units to cross obstacles thanks to a bridge carried on the vehicle. Between February and May 1940, twenty Panzer IV from the C and D series were converted into bridge-laying vehicles. They accompanied the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 10th German armored divisions during the 1940 campaigns in Belgium and France. This version makes an original subject for a German armor collection or for a diorama devoted to engineer units and crossing operations.

The Trumpeter model includes 778 parts spread across 21 sprues, including the hull and the track components. Five sheets of photo-etched parts are provided to enhance the vehicle details. The kit offers rubber tracks as well as tracks with separate links. The movable bridge can be built either in transport position or in a crossing configuration.

Once assembled, the model measures 307.6 mm long, 113.8 mm wide and 98 mm high. At 1/35 scale, each real dimension is reduced by a factor of thirty-five—a format highly appreciated for armor scale models and military dioramas.

Assembly requires careful preparation of the parts, especially the running gear components, the tracks, and the photo-etched parts. Appropriate cement for injected plastic is required. Using a primer then makes painting easier and highlights any touch-ups needed before finishing. The decals allow you to create a German Army decoration.
