The Hauler HLP72024 is a snap-together kit at 1/72 scale depicting the German radar station FuSE-65 Würzburg-Riese. This resin kit, complemented by photo-etched parts, recreates the impressive parabolic antenna and its ground installation.

    The FuSE-65 Würzburg-Riese

The Würzburg-Riese was a German detection radar developed by Telefunken starting in 1941. The designation FuSE stands for “Funk-Sende-Empfänger” (radio transmitter-receiver). The “Riese” (giant) version was distinguished by its large steerable parabola and was intended in particular for the detection and tracking of aircraft.

With its highly recognizable architecture—featuring a latticed reflector, the cabin, and support equipment—this subject is an original piece for a collection focused on German ground equipment from the Second World War, or for building a radar station diorama.

    The Hauler model kit

The reference HLP72024 is a 1/72 scale kit. At this scale, the dimensions of the real subject are reduced 72 times, allowing you to fit the installation into a military setting without taking up the space of a large-format model.

Resin makes it possible to reproduce thin, finely detailed shapes, while the photo-etched elements provide the sharpness needed for the antenna structures. Assembly requires careful preparation of the parts: removing the casting sprues, lightly removing mold lines, and doing test fits are especially helpful before gluing.

    Assembly and finishing

For assembling a resin kit, the use of cyanoacrylate glue or an epoxy glue suitable for resin is generally recommended. A primer compatible with resin makes it easier for paint to adhere and highlights the details before painting.

The parabola structure lends itself to nuanced paintwork: a regular base can be enhanced with slight color variations, washes, and aging effects appropriate for equipment installed outdoors. The delicate parts are best handled with precision during the final assembly steps.
