Challenger 1, 1/72 - Revell 03365

The Revell 03365 Challenger 1 is a plastic model kit to be assembled at 1/72, reproducing the British main battle tank Challenger 1. The British Challenger 1

Entered service with the British Army in 1983 to replace the Chieftain, the Challenger 1 was used until the early 2000s. The tank is especially recognizable for its angular-shaped turret, associated with the use of composite Chobham armour, as well as its 120 mm rifled gun. It took part in the 1991 Gulf War and underwent several upgrades during its operational career.

The Revell 03365 model kit

Made at a scale of 1/72, this reduced-scale military vehicle model reduces each dimension of the real tank by a factor of 72. Its format is suitable for building a collection of modern British armoured vehicles, for display on a base, or for integration into a 1/72 diorama.

The kit offers two decorating options: 17/21 Lancers (BOAR) and Bosnia and Herzegovina, 1996. The decals included allow you to create the markings associated with these two versions.

Assembly and finishing

As with any plastic model kit, preparing the parts before gluing improves the quality of the final result: carefully trimming the elements from the sprues, removing any mould lines, and doing a dry fit check of the sub-assemblies. The movable turret then lets you choose the model’s orientation for a dynamic display.

A model primer makes painting easier and helps unify the different parts before applying the colour tones. Decals are best applied to a smooth, glossy surface; a matt or satin finish can then be used to harmonize the overall look of the armoured vehicle. A light weathering, applied with restraint, can highlight the engravings, the suspension details and areas exposed to dust.
