The Hobby Boss 83831 recreates a U.S. military truck GMC CCKW-352 Steel Cargo Truck at 1/35. This injection-molded plastic kit to be assembled depicts the short-wheelbase version of the famous 6x6 GMC truck, with a enclosed cab and a steel cargo bed.

The GMC CCKW-352

The GMC CCKW is one of the most iconic American military trucks of World War II. Designed as a 2.5-ton, 6x6 transport vehicle, it was produced in many configurations to supply and move equipment across the theaters of operation. The designation CCKW-352 refers to the short-wheelbase version, while CCKW-353 designates a long-wheelbase variant.

The vehicle served during World War II and remained in use after the conflict, notably during the Korean War. Its utilitarian silhouette makes it an ideal subject for a convoy, resupply, field workshop, or American logistics scene diorama.

The Hobby Boss model kit

This reference offers an injection-molded plastic reproduction of the CCKW-352 with an enclosed cab and metal cargo bed. The set includes more than 330 parts, including 11 clear parts, as well as a small photo-etched fret. The engine, chassis, and driving area are reproduced to enhance the vehicle’s level of detail once assembled.

Assembly allows you to build the truck with or without a front winch. The wheels are also provided in injection-molded plastic. Decals are included for two license plates, along with a decoration guide.

Assembly and finishing

Building a 1/35 military truck requires careful preparation of the chassis, suspension, and cab parts. Gradual gluing, with regular checks of axle alignment, helps keep the model’s realistic stance. Photo-etched parts are best handled with a fine tweezers and a suitable glue.

A primer coat makes painting easier and reveals any glue seams or sanding marks. Finishing can then be enhanced with subtle weathering: dusting the chassis, tonal variations on the tires, and signs of wear on the cargo bed help bring out the GMC’s utilitarian character.

Scale and dimensions

At the 1/35 scale, each real dimension is reduced by a factor of 35. The assembled model measures approximately 180.5 mm long by 65 mm wide.
