The 83519 reference from Hobby Boss is a static model kit to be assembled at 1/350, depicting the French Navy’s ballistic missile nuclear submarine Le Triomphant. This contemporary subject recreates the distinctive silhouette of the lead ship of the Le Triomphant class.

The Le Triomphant submarine

The Triomphant is a strategic submarine of the French Navy and the first ship in its class. Entering active service in March 1997, it belongs to the oceanic component of France’s nuclear deterrent. Its streamlined hull, the sail (kiosque) and the rear section equipped with the propeller make it a particularly interesting subject for a collection of modern military ships at 1/350.

Once assembled, the replica measures 394.3 mm in length and 53 mm in width. The kit is designed to be displayed on its stand. The kit includes a sprue, the upper and lower hull parts, as well as a display base. A photo-etched fret is also provided, including parts intended for the nameplate and the propeller.

At a scale of 1/350, each dimension of the real submarine is reduced 350 times. This scale allows you to keep a noticeable presence in the display case while making it easier to integrate the model into a uniform naval collection or into a marine diorama.

Assembly and finishing

Carefully preparing the hull joint lines helps achieve a clean finish before painting. Using glue suited to plastic model kits, fine abrasive paper and a primer makes surface preparation easier. The small photo-etched parts require precise handling; a fine pair of tweezers and a suitable cyanoacrylate glue are useful for fitting them.

Applying paint in thin coats helps preserve surface details. A light weathering can then highlight raised areas, technical zones and hull contrasts, depending on the desired look: a well-maintained vessel, an at-sea presentation, or a simply finished collection model.
