The Beriev Be-12 « Chayka » by ModelSvit, reference MSVIT72012, is a plastic model kit to be assembled at 1/72. It reproduces the Soviet amphibious aircraft Be-12, a twin-engine turboprop aircraft designed for anti-submarine warfare missions. The nickname « Chayka », which means “seagull,” refers to the distinctive silhouette of its wings.

The Be-12 succeeded the Beriev Be-6 within the Soviet naval aviation. Its amphibious airframe allowed it to operate from the sea as well as from a land runway, while its equipment was intended for maritime patrol and submarine-search missions. Its large wingspan, flying-boat hull, and seagull wings make it an original subject in a 1/72 naval aviation collection.
