The DH.60G “Polar British Expedition” Cut by Sova-M, reference SVM-4801, is an airplane model kit to be assembled at 1/48. It recreates a seaplane version of the de Havilland DH.60G involved in the context of the British expedition dedicated to studying an Arctic air route.

The de Havilland DH.60 Moth is a British light, two-seat aircraft that appeared in the mid-1920s. Designed for flight training and aerial tourism, this biplane went through numerous variants, including versions adapted for use on floats. The DH.60G was equipped with an engine from the de Havilland Gipsy family and belongs to the Moth line, known for having significantly contributed to the rise of British light aviation.

Sova-M’s proposed subject depicts British Arctic operations carried out between 1930 and 1931 on the east coast of Greenland, as part of research related to establishing an air link between the United Kingdom and North America. The float configuration is particularly suited to a display focused on exploration aviation, interwar-era seaplanes, or a polar diorama.

Made from injection-molded plastic, the kit includes 123 parts. It features the floats and their water-launching trolley, as well as a canopy with a closed windshield suited to polar conditions. A decal for the expedition team is included.

At a 1/48 scale, each dimension of the real aircraft is reduced forty-eight times. The assembled model measures approximately 160 mm long with a 190 mm wingspan, a format that maintains a strong presence while highlighting the characteristic sleekness of this light biplane.

Building a floatplane requires special attention to aligning the landing gear elements and the struts. Careful preparation of the parts, progressive gluing, and test fitting make it easier to achieve consistent geometry. Painting can be done with a brush or an airbrush after applying a primer suitable for plastic. For a convincing result, the small glazed surfaces, the struts, and the rigging cables deserve precise finishing.
