Ye-152M heavy interceptor prototype, 1/72 - ModelSvit MSVIT72030

The ModelSvit MSVIT72030 reproduces at 1/72 the Ye-152M, a Soviet heavy interceptor prototype. This injection-molded plastic model depicts an experimental aircraft from the Ye-152 series, developed in the context of Soviet high-speed interception research during the Cold War.

The Ye-152M was intended to serve as a prototype for a new air-defense interceptor featuring advanced avionics. Derived from the Ye-152-2, it received several evolutions, including a prominent dorsal spine with additional tanks and control units, an enlarged fin, and a canopy that opens upward. The program also planned to use the Uragan-5B-80 radar system. Difficulties encountered during testing, as well as the decision to discontinue radar development in the early 1960s, limited the continuation of the program.

At the 1/72 scale, each dimension of the real aircraft is reduced 72 times. Once assembled, the model measures 273 mm long with a 143 mm wingspan. It provides an accurate representation of Soviet prototypes with a particularly distinctive silhouette.

The kit includes 138 plastic parts made of PS. It comes with a photo-etched fret, adhesive masks, two K-80 missiles, and an external tank of 1,500 liters. Several wing-tip variants are provided. The included markings match a Soviet camouflage scheme used during flight trials.

Assembly requires the usual supplies for static model making: glue suitable for plastic, paints, cutting tools, fine abrasives, and prep products. Photo-etch parts can be handled with a fine-tipped pair of pliers or tweezers. Priming then helps you check seams and prepare for painting. The adhesive masks are a practical aid for protecting the clear parts during the various finishing stages.
